September feels to me like the morning caffeine just kicked in - there is a buzz of energy to move around and do a lot of things. When in balance, this energy may feel motivating; when out of balance you may feel tension and overwhelm. We are powerful in that we can pause and observe how we attune to the incoming autumn energy and manage our reception and digestion of the energy into balance.

In my personal practice, I find that incorporating practices that are grounding and flowing help to direct the energy in the fall months more towards the balanced end of the spectrum.

Here are some ideas for these practices:

Grounding

  • Spend time in nature

  • Yoga poses such as star pose (see picture below)

  • Daily morning meditation of any length to set your day

Moving

  • Any type of physical movement (walking, running, dancing, vinyasa yoga)

  • Focus on breath movement by taking complete inhales and exhales

  • Acknowledge the energy around you and allow it to flow through you

Regular moving and grounding practices will help reset and maintain your mindset through the fall months. Commit to your wellbeing like you make commitments to other people and activities: schedule it in your calendar and stick to it the best you can!

If you are interested in fall yoga practices, I am offering Fall Vinyasa, Late Summer Yin & Meridians, and Fall Yin & Meridians on my Videos page, you can get these as individually purchased videos or through a subscription.

Happy Beltane! 🌱☀️🌙

Halfway between spring equinox (Ostara) and summer solstice.

This is a time of merging of fire/sun/ action energies and water/moon/resting energies. Maybe you feel a little more balanced? If not, try nature. Notice how she absorbs and needs both to flourish. Some days are really rainy and others are really sunny, and the balance is in the medium-term viewpoint.

🔥 💧

When I look at the eightfold wheel of the year, the Druid calendar, I think about how the chakras (our primary energy centers) relate. Beltane seems to relate most to the sacral chakra (svadhisthana), the center of creativity, fertility, and fluidity.

🧡

This is a time of expression and growth in nature. What is that you would like to see grow or move fluidly? This is fertile time. Note what seeds you are nurturing unconsciously and consciously! Do your best. That is all that is in your control.

Spring energy fluctuations occur in nature, and we are part of nature. Sometimes we feel tired in spring and sometimes we can feel like doing too much in spring.

Watch this short talk for some thoughts on how to become aware of what your body and mind need in the moment and manage the fluctuations of spring energy.

Check out my Video page for Spring Vinyasa flow, containing breathing techniques, a spring tea recipe, and yoga! This on-demand class is available for a limited time during the spring season only.
